Into the Woods / Line

Walking, just alone through the woods, with a couple of cameras, the Contax G2, with the 21 lens or an M7 with the Summilux 50, and the MP with the 28 Summicron- always the MP with the 28 Summicron. HP5+ usually- with a heavy pull down to 50 in Microdol-X. Some other films here and there to keep it interesting, keep it a challenge. Some Neopan 1600 at 200, some HP5+ at box speed. And some color every now and again. But walking, head in the trees: not way up there, but those understory trees, the young ones, the small ones. The fallen and crippled. Striped Maple, Yellow Birch, some Sugar Maple. Beech, what's left of them. It's all line. A cacophony of line. Mayhem. Murder technically, but deliberate and anchored with a structure teased from the mess. There is something there, some tenuous string that it is all held together on.

This started as an exercise, to figure out how to shoot film in the woods to keep detail in the shadows without losing everything in the whites and it ended as the most intense seeing I've ever tried to do. There's that infra-thin again, but here it has nothing to do with sex, it is all mind. Mind over mayhem maybe, but mind.
